What Is Vellichor

A library built for faith-minded readers

Vellichor is the strange wistfulness of used bookstores — that feeling of being surrounded by stories you haven't read yet, lives you haven't lived, and wisdom you haven't encountered. We named this catalog after that feeling because it's exactly what we want readers to find here.

Amazon lumps Christianity in with Buddhism, astrology, and self-help. Goodreads has no way to tell you whether a book is a Grace Livingston Hill novel — where every character breathes their faith — or a general clean romance that happens to have a church in it. There is no trusted, organized, curated place to discover Christian books.

Vellichor is that place. Every book is classified by its Faith Spectrum level, theological tradition, audience, and spiritual depth. You can search for Reformed theology, Amish romance, Catholic literary fiction, or Christian fantasy. You can find books safe for your ten-year-old or academic theology for your pastor.

It is not a social network. It is not a review aggregator. It is a library — calm, curated, and built to last.

What You'll Find

Built for discernment

The Faith Spectrum
Every book is rated from Faith-Centered (Level 5) to Clean Read (Level 1) — so you always know exactly how much faith is in the story before you open it.
Tradition Tags
Catholic, Reformed, Orthodox, Baptist, Anabaptist, Anglican — browse by your own tradition or explore outside it with full context.
Curated Reading Lists
Advent reading, beginner theology, Christian fantasy, classic literature — collections built with care, not generated by algorithm.
No Spice Promise
Every book is screened. Clean read means clean read. The catalog is a space faith-minded readers can browse without second-guessing every title.
Curator's Voice
Every book can carry a curator's note — honest editorial context, theological caveats, and the reason a book earned its place here.
Reader Comments
Short, substantive reader reflections — not star ratings and hot takes. What the book meant, how it landed, what a new reader should know.
The Faith Spectrum

Finally — a way to know what you're picking up

The most important thing we built. No other catalog classifies Christian books this way.

5
Faith-Centered
Faith is the entire point. Every character choice flows from an explicitly Christian worldview. Evangelism, conversion, or discipleship may be central.
Grace Livingston Hill · Frank Peretti
4
Faith-Forward
Faith is a major, meaningful theme shaping characters and plot. Redemption, grace, or spiritual growth are prominent throughout.
Francine Rivers · Dee Henderson
3
Faith-Present
Characters have faith and it's visible, but the story could largely exist without it. Setting or era carries the Christian context.
Lisa Bergren's Waterfall Series · many historical novels
2
Faith-Friendly · Clean Read
Little to no faith content, but clean — by a Christian author. Safe for faith-minded readers who simply want a good story.
Clean romance · cozy mystery · clean contemporary
1
Clean · No Spice
Secular story, no explicit content — by a Christian author. For readers who want a break from faith-heavy reading without compromising their standards.
General clean fiction by Christian authors

"Of making many books there is no end — but wisdom is found by those who seek her."
